>PROJECT INFORMATION
Sequoia Union High School District wanted a new facility that could potentially serve a wide variety of district uses—such as adult school classes at night and classroom space for its growing number of charter school programs. The new facility needed to provide for ample flexible space to meet these changing needs, and the district further wanted it to achieve LEED Platinum certification.
CAW designed a new two-story building offering administrative office space and large academic support spaces that could serve a variety of uses for the students, teachers, and the local community. A central glass lobby, open staircase, and circulation corridors flood the building’s interior with natural light and help visitors to quickly orient themselves. Computer modeling was employed to confirm proper building orientation in order to achieve optimal solar and wind-aided natural ventilation through a central clearstory roof monitor. Wide circulation corridors with natural light provide comfortable spaces for sitting, reading, and studying between classes.
