Originally built in 1976, Independence High School’s theater sat untouched for over 35 years.
With a 450-seat capacity house, the heavily used theater is lined with dark wood interiors, aging theater lighting and sound systems, and no means of accessibility. The lobby and public areas are grossly undersized without any welcoming face to the community.
By adding a single exterior elevator tower, CAW Architects efficiently provided access to the public areas of the upper and lower house levels, the lobby and the stage areas. By updating the public restrooms and adding the elevator, our team was able to incorporate a new lobby and welcoming public entrance to the theater without adding additional project costs.
