As a growing middle school, La Entrada expanded through temporary portables without clear planning. Over time, the campus plan was lost, and the age and wear of the buildings resulted in much needed improvements. CAW led a district-wide facilities master plan to create a long range plan to support the many innovative campus programs and student life at La Entrada.
The first project in the plan for La Entrada was to replace the portables with a new two-story 32,000 sf classroom building and multipurpose space. Centered on faculty-student collaboration, the design was shaped around the teaching methodologies of the school. Classrooms were clustered around shared breakout space, while each classroom can open to the adjacent space, as well as shared outdoor space. These classrooms connect to a dynamic, light-filled atrium space that offers a variety of different break-out zones, small study areas, and a large assembly space. The new building connects to the campus through outdoor academic courtyards and a large student plaza. The new building and surrounding outdoor spaces transform the campus into a center for academic innovation and excellence.
